Nature’s Scene adds Yukoner to its artists roster

Nature’s Scene of Georgetown, Ont., has agreed to provide representation for Halin de Repentigny, a longtime Yukon artist, through its national and international network of galleries and art dealers.

“Nature’s Scene was at the leading edge of the popularization of wildlife art in the ’70s and ’80s, helping bring Robert Bateman to the world, and it’s continued to grow and expand its offerings ever since,” said Susan Stanley, the president of The Artist Project, with which de Repentigny is affiliated.

“Being represented by such a well-known and respected gallery is another significant step in bringing Halin to a wider audience, and we are thrilled to start this journey with Nature’s Scene.”

“The power and emotion evident in Halin’s work is not something you see every day,” said Phil Coles of Nature’s Scene.

“His connection to the land and people he portrays gives the rest of us a window into an incredibly beautiful part of the world that many of us will never experience firsthand.”

Securing representation with Nature’s Scene continues to increase de Repentigny’s exposure in new markets.

“Like any artist, I want my work to be seen and enjoyed by as many people as possible,” said de Repentigny.

“Being able to do that by working with a respected gallery like this is a great opportunity, and I’m looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Nature’s Scene.”

The artist’s works can be seen at https://www.naturesscene.com

There will also be future announcements about de Repentigny’s upcoming solo show at The Old Fire Hall in Whitehorse. This will be his first local show in three years.

Halin's Mammoth Turns Heads 🦣!!

Posted by Susan Stanley on

By Dan Davidson on August 27, 2021

DAWSON CITY – It’s just under 13 months ago that Dawsonites witnessed a mammoth progression up Front Street from the north end to a spot at the Waterfront Park near the Commissioner’s residence.

It was literally a mammoth event. While there has been some landscaping around the life-size statue since them, it was only in the last few weeks that people who didn’t already know could read about the project on-site.

“It took us some time to get around to it,” posted Mayor Wayne Potoroka this week, “but we finally caught up with Halin de Repentigny and thanked him for sharing his talents with our town.

“The mammoth across from the Commissioner’s Residence is a fantastic addition to our cultural and visual landscape.”

As the town recreation department noted in a separate post, “This piece has quickly become one of the most photographed things in Dawson and changed the landscape of this part of the dyke.”

“There are more folks than just Halin to thank for this,” Potoroka continued. “(There’s) Stuart Schmidt, the benefactor of the project; Erich Raguth, the promoter who persisted in having the town accept this gift; and Gammie Trucking and Donnie Flynn and his crew, who brought the mammoth from Halin’s front yard to its new home.”

Recently, the City of Dawson erected a sign and met with de Repentigny to commemorate the donation of his piece The Woolly Mammoth to Waterfront Park.

The interpretive sign included input from the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, Yukon government palaeontologists, the Klondike Placer Miners’ Association and Halin himself.

Town council members were happy to meet with de Repentigny last Friday to personally thank him and all those involved in this project.

“I’m a fan of Halin’s art,” Potoroka wrote, “so I was pickled to have this significant, sizable piece of art added to the many other pieces he has on display around town. (They must number in the double digits by now.)

“But the entire saga of this beast and its path to its new home is a great reminder that remarkable, unusual things are still possible in this remarkable, unusual town.”

The plaque explains the selection of the Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) as a subject, suggested by the large number of mammoth bones that have been unearthed continuously since 1896 as a result of placer mining operations.

de Repentigny created the statue is his back yard in 2020, using cement, rebar and wire mesh using a ferro-cement method.

Public Premiere of New Works by Halin de Repentigny October 16th

Posted by Allan Nixon on

Whitehorse, Yukon – The Artist Project (TAP) announced today, that new works by renowned Yukon artist Halin de Repentigny will make their public debut in Whitehorse Friday October 16th, 2015.

“We are thrilled to be able to share the first works of Halin’s new collection Divergence, with his fans in the Yukon” said Susan Stanley, President of TAP. “These new works continue to build on Halin’s reputation as an exceptional landscape artist but they also show another side of Halin that people don’t often get to see.”

“My life has always been one of seeking out the next adventure and Divergence is a reflection of that. For me the straight path definitely is the boring path” said de Repentigny. “I think artists need to tap their inner creativity and explore different styles and subject matter in order to stay fresh and grow. I will always be a landscape artist but that doesn’t mean that’s all I am.”

In keeping with the theme of Divergence, the new show will run for three days only. Susan Stanley noted “We want to make this a special event and a celebration of Halin’s unique talent. With Halin leaving for his winter adventures in Argentina it seemed fitting to limit the public exhibition to the three days he would be available to attend the show”. The entire Divergence collection will be available on line by the end of October and select pieces will be on display at partner galleries in Yukon and B.C. over the coming months.

Divergence will be presented at The Old Fire Hall 1105 Front Street Whitehorse Yukon.

Friday October 16th 5:00 – PM
Saturday October 17th 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday October 18th Noon – 4:00 PM

“We are very excited to share the first works of Halin’s new collection Tributaries - Peel to Patagonia, with his fans in the Yukon” said Susan Stanley, President of TAP. “These works are focused on Halin’s early years in the Yukon spent living and trapping on the Hart River in the Peel Watershed and offer a stunning interpretation of this beautiful and remote region”.
