Where did summer go?
Here we sit, late August and I’m asking myself where the summer went. Much of my early summer was taken up building a birch bark canoe for Canada 150 Celebrations.
It meant being in Whitehorse for almost 3 weeks while constructing the canoe in public next to the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre.
It was a great experience but tough being away from home that long.
The canoe made its maiden voyage down the Yukon River in early July, then toured Yukon communities before ending up at the Transportation Museum in Whitehorse.
Eventually it will find a home with the Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation in Mayo.
Maybe I should start building birch bark canoes for clients.

The rest of July sped past and all of a sudden I was in Fairbanks Alaska for the wedding of my eldest daughter, Madeline and her partner Russel.
I’m not big on dressing up and giving speeches but it was a great time and Mado was a beautiful bride.
I wish her and Russel nothing but happiness in all the years to come.
