La Pacha Mama (2013)
Oil on canvas
30 x 40 in
A bulldozer pushes forward over the body of a woman who is the land — green-skinned, hair trailing like roots, hand still gripping a sapling. Industrial barrels leak around her. There’s nothing subtle here and it isn’t meant to be. The painting forces the viewer to confront the violence of resource extraction, not in the abstract, but as a physical assault on the living world.
